Christmas Pop Up Card: Magical Snowman Tutorial

Christmas Pop Up Card: Magical Snowman Tutorial

Here is the tutorial and template for the Christmas/Holiday magical snowman popup card. I know this is a bit last minute, and probably too late to make it for Christmas for some of you. That's why I made it a Holiday card too, so you still have time to make it and send it out before new years! When you open this card, a child puts a magical hat on the snowman. This is how Frosty the snowman comes to life. In my rush to make the card earlier, I forgot to glue the broom on. So here are some pictures of the card with Frosty holding the broom.

Here is a video of the tutorial on how to make the Magical Snowman card:

If you don't want to watch the video, here are step by step instructions on how to make the popup card:

  1. Purchase the template for this design here: Magical Snowman Template.
  2. The template has 3 pages; the inside snowman and child, the outside cover and the clip art (broom, hat, scarf, eyes, carrot nose, buttons, arms..etc)
  3. Using the template, cut the card parts out of card stock. You can use these instructions on using templates or you can use a cutting machine.
  4. Score the bottom of the snowman and the child's feet, where the parts will be folded.
  5. Fold the two halves of the snowman and child upwards and glue at the top. Only glue the top of the snowman's head, the hat, and the child's face.
  6. Before the glue dries, fold the card flat down the center to make sure the parts are aligned well. The card should fold flat.
  7. Assemble the inside card (with the snowman) into the backing using the Christmas trees on the 4 corners. Be careful not to bend or break off the small details.
  8. Glue on the rest of the clip art which include:
    • Frosty's hat
    • Frosty's hat flower
    • Branch arms
    • Buttons
    • Coal eyes
    • Carrot nose (or button nose if you want to be more accurate)
    • Shirt buttons
    • Frosty's scarf
    • The child's hat/scarf
    • Broom
    • Corncob pipe
    • Text

To make sure that the hat moves in front of the snowman, you can slightly curve the hat forward and Frosty's head backwards. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!

I sure wish you had files for your designs to use on a Cricut or other cutter.

You do such nice work and this card is just too cute.

But I cannot cut anything by hand so cannot make them, but hope you continue to do such nice work.

    Happy Holidays,
    Teri

PS, if that doesn’t make any sense it is because I’m using a dictation program and sometimes it puts the wrong words but I think you get the gist, have a happy new year

hi Vasudha, sorry i don’t have anything for new years this year. The closest thing i have is my 4th of july napkin ring. it’s not a pop up card, but you can make the fireworks, cut off the ring and glue it to the front of a card. Happy new year!
