Mother’s Day Lotus Flower Pop Up Card

Mother’s Day Lotus Flower Pop Up Card

“When you meditate, breath deeply and imagine a lotus flower in front of you.”  This is what my mother told me 17 years ago when teaching me Chi Gong.  That  year, for her birthday, I made her a pop up lotus flower card.  She could then bring the card wherever she meditated, to help her visualize the lotus flower.  She was so happy to see the beautiful lotus flower card and she kept it in her purse so she could pull it out where ever she went.

The fact that the lotus flower emerges from a pond and looks so beautiful and pure against the muddy waters lets itself to be very symbolic in many cultures. In Egyptian culture, the lotus flower symbolizes rebirth, the sun and creation. The lotus flower symbolizes purity, spiritual awakening and faithfulness in Buddhism.  Buddha is often shown sitting on a lotus flower.  In Hinduism,  the lotus flower symbolizes beauty, fertility, prosperity, spirituality and eternity.

After many requests, I finally got around to redesigning the lotus flower pop up card.  This is a great Mothers day craft or card you can make for someone who is spiritual.

I made a pink and white version of the lotus pop up card.  Here is what the card looks like:

Here's what the card looks like in action:

If you are curious to see what my original 17 year old lotus card looks like, here it is.

I finished the template and tutorial.  You can find the tutorial here: Lotus Flower Pop Up Card Tutorial.

Lovely lovely work. I teach underprivileged kids living and survival skills on Sundays. this will be a fantastic activity for Mother’s day. In Hinduism the lotus is revered because in spite of being born in the mud it rises up and blossoms free of it. The lotus leave allows water droplets to run off without wetting. This signifies that no matter how bad your environment or experience, one can still rise up pure and noble. And like the lotus leave, one can be in the mud without letting it stick to you.
